On Friday (16 January), Burna Boy released his first single of 2026, “For Everbody,” along with an accompanying music video that sees the Afrobeats superstar pairing up with some of Africa’s biggest sporting talents.

Produced in collaboration with the media group Sporty, and directed by celebrated American filmmaker Dave Meyers (who’s helmed award-winning music videos for Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles, Ariana Grande and more), the video brings together some of Africa’s most dynamic athletes from across the continent and the diaspora – including Camavinga, Nico and Iñaki Williams, Ighalo, Makelele, Karembeu, Alex Song, Militão, Asisat Oshoala, Cheslin Kolbe, Michael Essien, Benni McCarthy, Christian Karembeu, Claude Makélélé, Victor Wanyama, Odion Jude Ighalo, and Kenneth Omeruo – in a defining cultural moment that merges music, movement and identity.

“This one is for the culture – for everyone carrying our sound, our spirit and our story around the world,” Burna Boy says of the anthemic track, released a few days prior to the 2026 AFCON football finals.

Best known for its SportyTV platform, which broadcasts football across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa, the Sporty Group also has interests in fintech, entertainment and gaming – while “For Everybody” marks the groups first foray into cultural projects.

“I think Africa is at the centre stage of the music video and the song,” Elias Gallego, Sporty’s VP of business development, marketing and media, tells Billboard Africa. “In Africa, the connection between culture, music, entertainment and sports of is very present, and particularly football, because football is part of the culture in Africa – so we wanted to put everything together into a single video. From the beginning, we knew that Burna Boy was going to represent very well the values of the sport, pride in his African roots, and the journey of taking Africa to the global stages.”

Shot in Madrid, the video was choreographed by Dutch choreographer Shay Latukolan, styled by Ella Clark Cowan.

“Africa is so complex and so beautiful and diverse – and there’s so much to speak about,” video director Dave Meyers tells Billboard Africa. “We took the idea of an African [version] of The Met Gala – Like, how would people be dressed? We also wanted to capture moments where Burna was on stage, and also hosting a house party. And so, I kind of weaved it together from that. I’m very inspired by everything I learn while I researching African artists, photographers and African culture. I’ve worked with Burna in the past, and Ronami [Ogulu], Burna’s sister, and the shorthand that I’ve developed with her is really special – I feel like she also safeguards the credibility of what we’re doing. And I think that’s really important. I would hate to do something that was tone deaf in representing Africa. With her oversight, and with the level of commitment Sporty was willing to give, and with the beautiful song Burna wrote, I just felt really excited to explore and play in the space.”

“What I’m really excited about with the Burna project is that, for years and years and years, I’ve worked in commercials, and then I worked in videos,” Meyers continues. “The videos are always starved for money, and the commercials have so much money, but no art. And so Sporty is a great example of, uh, a brand [supporting the] art. I’m proud of the project from that standpoint. And I hope it’s successful for Sporty, so that more like it, and other brands are encouraged to do these kinds of things, ’cause I think it’ll make viewership more fun.”
