How Klassik Frescobar’s “Dansa” Found an Audience Beyond Carnival

Not every song that gains traction online keeps building beyond the initial moment, but “Dansa” has continued to find new audiences. Originally recorded in 2023 by Miami-based artist Klassik Frescobar with a beat by Queens-based St. Lucian producer DJ Kalli, the track gradually expanded beyond social media, eventually drawing wider cultural attention, including a mention from Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness during a nationally televised debate last August.

The record feels unfiltered and highly relatable. Frescobar leans into the idea that a few shots of rum can loosen inhibitions and make anyone believe they are a better dancer than they really are. The concept is straightforward, the hook is easy to remember, and the track keeps the mood light.

Built around the hook “Rum turn me to a dansa,” the track gained traction as TikTok users began sharing videos featuring it. Drawing on his background in music business and production, Frescobar recognized the momentum early and decided to invest in the song once he saw its streaming and social media numbers climb. He followed with music videos filmed in Fort Lauderdale and New York City, helping push the single past 14 million streams on Spotify.

The Independent Path Behind “Dansa”

The success of “Dansa” also highlights Frescobar’s artistic independence. He mixed and mastered the record himself, drawing on a musical heritage shaped by his Jamaican father and collaborators like Sal Infrared and DJ Boogy Rankss. Its rhythmic foundation also reflects the influence of St. Lucian Dennery Segment soca, a subgenre whose percussion-driven sound helps fuel its infectious energy.

That independent approach helped the record move beyond its initial regional audience. Rather than relying only on traditional Carnival-season promotion, “Dansa” built visibility through streaming platforms, social media, and live-event circles, with Frescobar later appearing at Notting Hill Carnival.

The song’s growing reach has also opened the door to more international performances for Frescobar. Known for energetic live performances, Frescobar has already performed in Greece and England, giving “Dansa” visibility beyond its original online momentum. Additional international appearances have further supported the song’s growing presence in live settings.
